UConn women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers went viral for her enthusiasm for her Huskies teammates being selected in the WNBA Draft on Monday night.

Bueckers was present at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Muhl waited for their names to be called.

As the footage rolled, cameras caught Bueckers cheering and filming her teammates standing on stage and welcoming the WNBA. Fans then took to social media to appreciate Bueckers’ enthusiasm for his fellow Huskies.

“I know if you’re watching, but Paige is filming like a proud mom,” one user wrote.

Another posted a photo of Amy Poelher’s character in the 2004 film Mean Girls and wrote: ‘Paige Bueckers has brought this energy throughout and it’s very good.’

Similar to the Mean Girls reference, a third user posted a photo of Bueckers filming her teammates alongside a snap of Kris Jenner holding a video camera in Ariana Grande’s music video for “thanks, next time.”

The photo of her with the phone in her hand was Bueckers’ reaction to Edwards being selected sixth overall by the Washington Mystics.

Moments later, Bueckers joined the crowd fairs: ‘We want Nika’ as we wait for the Croatian guard to be selected. Muhl was later drafted by the Seattle Storm with the 14th overall pick.

“So so so proud,” Bueckers wrote on X with two teary emojis.

Bueckers is entering his senior year at UConn and is expected to enter the draft next year.

After missing much of the past two years due to back-to-back knee surgeries, the six-footer helped the Huskies through their playoff run as they looked to regain their championship ways. UConn’s campaign ended in the Final Four with a loss to Caitlin Clark and Iowa.
