A major incident is unfolding at a major shopping center in Sydney, with reports of a stabbing and at least one gunman on the loose.
Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has been closed following the incident on Saturday afternoon.
Social media users reported people running across the footbridge outside the centre, while others said they were being evacuated from the centre’s car park.
Eastern suburbs local Ted Helliar wrote to X: ‘Something just went down at Westfield’s Bondi junction.’
‘We were up there and suddenly all these people were running towards us. Next thing dozens and dozens of people all running a screaming guy yelling ‘somebody’s stabbing everybody, get out of here’.’
Another X user said hundreds of shoppers were hiding behind department store David Jones, which had pulled its shutters down with reports that a man had been seen running with a gun in the centre.
A police spokesman told TheWSTNews Australia on Saturday afternoon that a major police operation was underway and that officers were gathering details at the scene.
