2023 TikTok Awards: Aussies erupt over toe-curling moment influencer Sopha Dopha, 19, accuses ABC host Tony Armstrong of ‘flirting’ with her – as misunderstanding that led to gaffe is revealed

Teen influencer Sopha Dopha has received another blow after her humiliating interaction with host Tony Armstrong at the 2023 TikTok Awards on Wednesday night.

At the awards ceremony, 19-year-old Sophia Begg (real name) accused the 34-year-old ABC presenter of flirting with her, despite the fact that he had just gone public with his new girlfriend.

‘How are you feeling? You look delighted and I’m happy for you,” Tony said to Sofia, who was nominated for Creator of the Year.

‘Thank you. Wow! Stop flirting with me! Sofia replied, causing scattered laughter from the audience.

Aussies went viral online and Sophia’s fans turned on her after the awkward moment went viral.

They soon figured out what went wrong: Sopha didn’t seem to understand the word “ecstatic” and thought it was some kind of physical compliment, like “exquisite.”

“She definitely doesn’t know what ecstasy is,” one wrote.

“Doesn’t understand the word ‘ecstatic’ but wants to become a doctor,” said another, referring to Sofia’s dream of a career in medicine.

One wrote on TikTok: “Don’t she know what ecstatic means?” while another added: “The silence is deafening.”

“Oh my god this made me so embarrassed,” someone else wrote.

“She clearly didn’t understand the word ‘delight’ and her first reaction was to accuse him of flirting,” said another.

“I’m literally having a hard time watching this,” one chimed in. “The fact that no one laughed speaks for itself. This girl needs her accounts deleted.”

Others criticized the influencer profession, writing: “Morons as influencers, no wonder we’re going downhill.”

Another wrote: “Unknown as ThickTok for no reason.”

Some of Sophia’s fans tried to rally around her and show support, with one writing: “Sophia is only 19. She was nervous. Give her a break.

“I also say really awkward things when I’m nervous and then feel really awkward,” another commented.

A third said: “It’s just sarcasm and a bit of banter.”

Sofia was left red-faced on Wednesday night after making a humiliating mistake during her interview with Tony at the TikTok Awards.

She was sitting in the audience when presenter Tony Armstrong approached her for an on-camera interview.

Footage of their brief chat went viral after Sofia bizarrely told the 34-year-old TV presenter to stop flirting with her despite having a girlfriend.

The AFL star hit back with a brutal slap, telling the blonde teen he’s “had a rough start this week, mate.” I don’t know if you caught the news…”, referring to his new relationship with girlfriend Rona Glynn-McDonald.

The audience burst into laughter and Tony continued: “It wasn’t flirting, it was flattery.”

Visibly embarrassed, Sofia covered her mouth with her hand before finally gathering her strength and answering, “No, thank you. I’m glad to be here.”

Ever the seasoned professional, Tony shrugged off the awkwardness by asking Sophia how she felt about the prospect of becoming Creator of the Year.

“Yes, I’m very excited. I’m very nervous, but very happy for everyone who is up for nomination,” she replied.

This comes shortly after Sofia lost the Creator of the Year award to mommy blogger Indy Clinton.

Later the blonde ended the evening with a visit Maccas travel to Sidney to drown out his sadness, p.posts a snapshot of her fast food order on Instagram Stories.

The menu for the evening included a large Quarter Pounder, a large Coca-Cola, filet-o-fish and medium fries.

The total cost of the meal was $28.50, so Sophie captioned the photo: “Sneaky Macca running around on the way home.”
