A truck driver narrowly escaped death after a giant tree branch crashed through his windshield, nearly impaling him.

The 62-year-old driver drove his truck off the side of the road. Dukes Highway, west of Bordertown in South Africa, Saturday at 6am.

It collided with a tree next to a signpost, shattering the windshield where a jagged branch penetrated it, leaving the driver with minor injuries.

A driver narrowly escaped with only minor injuries after a tree branch flew through his windshield, narrowly missing him.

South African police have shared photographs of the crash that show how close the incident was to fatal.

The driver was taken to Bordertown Hospital by paramedics.

Social media users rushed to ask the lucky winner to go buy a lottery ticket thanks to their luck.

“Take the lottery ticket, very lucky it didn’t end up in the driver’s hands,” one woman wrote.

“Very lucky, Optimus on the other hand will need to be fixed,” another added.

Police urged all motorists to always be careful on the road.
