A man has died in a surfing accident on a beach after he was found unconscious in the water.

Emergency crews rushed to Cabbage Tree Harbour, near Norah Head on the NSW Central Coast, about 10am on Wednesday.

Paramedics and Surf Life Savers performed CPR on the man, but he could not be saved.

The man has not yet been identified but is believed to be in his 70s.

Officers from NSW Police are investigating the incident and the cause that led to the man’s death.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
