A quick-thinking girl has used an Alexa device to save herself from a gang of marauding monkeys who invaded her house using a clever trick.

Nikita, from the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, asked her Amazon Alexa to play the sounds of a dog barking to scare away a group of monkeys throwing food and utensils around her kitchen.

The 13-year-old told India’s ANI News: ‘A couple of guests visited our home and they left the gate open.

‘Monkeys came into the kitchen and started throwing things here and there.’

Nikita said she was with her 15-month-old niece at the time, who the teenager said was scared, so she showed some quick thinking when she tried to get the marauding monkeys out of the house.

‘I saw Alexa and asked it to play the sound of a dog. Because of the barking sound, the monkeys got scared and ran away,” said Nikita.

Her mother, Shipra Ojha, told the outlet that Nikita, using the Alexa device — an Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Gen — had saved the girls’ lives.

She said she was in another room when she heard the barking her ‘clever’ daughter asked Alexa to do, prompting the monkey gang to flee the house.

The teenager was also praised for her quick thinking by local authorities, who agreed she likely saved her and her niece’s lives.

Nikita’s brother-in-law and the father of her niece told local media that monkeys are very common in the area and are known to be ‘naughty’.

He added that Alexa has been of great help to the family, who use it to control lights, fans and AC in the house.

“It also gives us the news update, the score for the IPL, (and if you ask any question – it answers. You can almost say anything,” he added.
