Wild footage captured the moment a driver collided with another person who tried to reserve a parking space for his friend by standing in the empty space.
The heated exchange between the pair took place inside an alley in Melbourne at 10.20 on 7 April.
Dashcam footage showed the driver as he began to pull into the empty space before being confronted by the man standing in his way.
“I’ll park over here,” the male driver told the man.
A pedestrian who tried to save a parking space for a friend by standing in an empty space in a Melbourne alley (pictured) led to a parking standoff with another motorist
The man, wearing a black wet weather jacket and a pair of matching shorts, replied bluntly: ‘Someone’s coming.’
‘Where’s the car’? asked the driver.
The man informed the driver that his friend is ‘getting around’ with the answer, prompting an angry response from the driver.
The motorist ordered the man out of the room before slowly starting to move his vehicle into the scene.
“I’ve got all this recorded mate,” he said.
The man refused to leave the scene and repeated that his friend would come soon.
“I’m not moving anywhere if you don’t leave,” said the driver.
The man still refused to budge as the driver’s patience quickly began to wane and he demanded to know where the other car was.
Eventually the standoff ended when the man was forced to make way for the driver to use the space.
“You can’t do this right,” said the driver.
Footage of the incident, which was later uploaded to Facebook, saw social media users lash out at the man who tried to reserve the parking space.
The upset motorist argued with the man (pictured) and demanded to know where the other car was before the pedestrian was forced to give up the empty space
‘I just wanted to drive into the room like they weren’t there,’ wrote one.
“Good for the driver to push – out of principle,” added another.
‘The pedestrian is completely wrong’.
Others chimed in, saying the driver would have been better off finding another parking spot.
Some argued that his vehicle may have been damaged later because he took the space.
“He would have done something to the car if he got the place that wasn’t worth the headache,” wrote one.
‘Why worry. As soon as you park there, he will scratch your car or deflate the tires,’ argued another.
