The ANZ bank will prevent its customers from being able to order a new checkbook within four weeks.
The bank’s 8.5 million customers were told via e-mail on Wednesday that from June 16 online banking customers would no longer be able to order a deposit book with checks.
“If you’ve never had a checkbook in your account, you won’t be able to order one,” customers were told.
This comes less than a year after Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced checks would be phased out by 2030.
