Apocalyptic Netflix thriller with VERY star-studded cast available NOW on platform… with ‘obsessed’ viewers lauding the ‘eerie and unsettling’ film just hours after release

Netflix’s new thriller starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke is now streaming on the platform after a limited theatrical release in November.

Leave the World Behind also stars Mahershala Ali, Miha’la Herrold and Kevin Bacon, as two vacationing families fight to survive amidst a global catastrophe, based on the 2020 book of the same name by Rumaan Alam.

Reaction to the film has been mostly positive, with some even waking up early in the morning to watch the film before work.

The trailer began with Hawke’s character Clay Sandford opening the door to their Long Island vacation home to find H.H. Scott (Ali), dressed in a tuxedo, and his wife Ruth (Herrold) in an evening dress.

“I’m sorry to bother you,” he tells Clay, and when Roberts (as Amanda Sandford) comes to the door, H.H. surprises them both by saying, “You must be Amanda.”

The film, now streaming on Netflix after a limited theatrical debut, received a mostly positive initial reaction.

Those who woke up early to watch the thriller were not disappointed.

On X, users responded to the streaming giant’s announcement of the release, writing: “Just finished… Didn’t disappoint, that’s for sure!!…

“Did I wake up at 4:30 to watch Leave the World Behind before work? I’ve been waiting for this for months… of course I have… The cinematography of Leave the World Behind is so creepy and unsettling that I’m obsessed.”

Similarly, another user added that the new streaming episode “disturbed me to the core,” while someone else simply said: “Loved it.”

The 2 hour 20 minute film is “certified fresh”. Rotten Tomatoes critics score 74 percent, audience rating 83 percent.

Another viewer agreed with this positive assessment, saying, “The cinematography of Leave the World Behind is so creepy and unsettling that I’m obsessed.”

Likewise, someone else added that the new streaming release “disturbed me to the core,” while someone else simply said, “Loved it.”

The film is riddled with moments of doubt on the part of the characters as the Sandford children seek comfort from their parents, who do everything they can to help them.

What initially appeared to be a massive wave of cyberattacks across the US turned out to be something much more sinister: even the island’s deer were acting up, surrounding the vacation home and staring at its inhabitants.

With Christmas just a few weeks away, Leave the World Behind may be at the top of people’s lists for a break from holiday fun next month.

Speaking about the film, Julia said: “It’s sort of a Jenga metaphor. We played this game in the film, and you feel like you have these people’s lives and they seem very solid, and then as every little piece slips away and everything is revealed, the lack of balance in the house starts to show (for) these characters.” .

Director Sam Esmail reiterated: “The overarching theme is really this idea of ​​how we quickly lose sight of our common humanity in the face of crises, which I find so relevant…

“I read the book in the early days of the pandemic and it was obviously incredibly relevant back then, it really shows up right before my eyes and even today with everything that’s going on in the world it feels equally relevant…
