Army-Navy thriller! Midshipmen fall just ONE YARD SHORT against the Black Knights to fall, 17-11, as Cadets capture sixth Commander-in-Chief trophy in their last eight meetings
The Midshipmen were one yard away from tying the Black Knights in Saturday’s Army-Navy game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. In the end, Army prevailed 17–11, despite Navy’s late-game resurgence.
The attempt to push quarterback Ty Lavaita for a touchdown and force overtime fell short by inches as the Black Knights held their opponents just behind the goal line with three seconds remaining.
Entering the final quarter scoreless, Navy settled in and appeared to be on the verge of returning to victory. The Midshipmen needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion as they trailed 17-9 with a minute left in the game.
Unfortunately, the Navy’s latest efforts fell short after Lawaita failed to complete his three match-winning runs before resorting to a final push. Two passes were not caught by teammates, and one was blocked by Army defender Max Didomenico.
Army won its sixth Commander-in-Chief Trophy in the last eight years and its 63rd game in the rivalry’s history. Meanwhile, the Midshipmen trail with 54 wins in their meets.
