An underground coal miner has revealed he takes home nearly $300,000 a year.
The worker was interviewed in Brisbane’s CBD this week by a member of the Getahead app, which works similar to Tinder but for jobs.
When asked how much he earned, the man said that because he was self-employed, he took home just under $300,000.
A Brisbane man has revealed he earns about $300,000 a year as a self-employed coal miner
“My whole family has always just done it (and) I’ve been doing it since I was 17,” he said.
‘Anyone can do it, you just have to do a Standard 11 first.’
A Standard 11 is a state-certified training module that must be completed by anyone wishing to enter the mining industry.
It was developed to ensure employees understand appropriate security information and obligations and typically takes two days to complete.
The miner warned that the work is not for the faint of heart and that he sometimes works up to a kilometer underground.

“I don’t get scared, but there are other people who have come down for the first time and wanted to get straight back out because they couldn’t make it,” he said.
“Obviously it’s a dangerous job, you have layers, roof falls, gas explosions.”
Fellow TikTokkers pointed out how casually the miner was dressed despite his vast wealth.
He was seen wearing a pair of thongs, blue board shorts and a patterned shirt.
He also had shopping bags from JB Hi-Fi and Rebel Sport.
The average salary for underground miners is around $150,000, according to job recruitment platform Talent.
It is understood because the man is a subcontractor, he is able to earn close to double that amount.
