In a recent video containing Anti-Aging Tip 192, a doctor explained how spending just 15 to 20 minutes in a sauna can help slow down the aging process and improve collagen production.

However, a TikTok-famous plastic surgeon advised against spending too much time in the sauna, which could have dire consequences.

Beverly Hills, California-based plastic surgeon Dr. Farian Jalalabadi advised his followers to spend 20 minutes in a sauna once a week, or daily if possible.

Break a sweat: Here’s how time spent in the sauna saves your skin

  • Dermatologist Dr. Erin Gilbert, MD, tells the story. Dermmarket sweating releases toxins
  • By releasing toxins, you unclog your pores.
  • This process increases blood circulation, which improves the appearance of your skin and gives it a radiant glow.
  • Increased blood flow also means flushed cheeks without applying blush.

“The sauna slows down the aging process of the skin. Improves the production of collagen and elastin. It detoxifies the skin through sweating,” said Dr. Jalalabadi, adding that sauna bathing is especially beneficial for the heart and lungs.

“It improves blood flow to your skin,” the content creator continued.

“It releases small proteins that protect your DNA and your cells from heat aging,” Dr. Jalalabadi told his followers, adding that you only need 15 to 20 minutes to see the full benefits.

“Every day you do this, it’s an anti-aging practice,” the Californian continued.

However, Dr. Jalalabadi warned that it is possible to overdo it and warned against pushing yourself to exercise for 40 minutes, which can be dangerous and lead to exhaustion, dehydration, dizziness, nausea, headaches or even heatstroke. The doctor went on to explain that sauna use is not beneficial for people with skin melasma, which causes brown spots to appear on the face, as it worsens hyperpigmentation.

“If possible, use the sauna every day,” Dr. Jalalabadi concluded the video.

Commenters raved about the advice, with many joking that they would simply walk outside in Texas or get into a car to get the same effect.

“Free outdoor sauna in Houston, Texas for 6 months,” joked one follower, who happens to be the doctor’s hometown.

Another wrote: “I live in Texas. I don’t need a sauna. I need to plunge into the cold.

“Staying single stops aging!” I’ve always been single, and I’m almost 80,” joked a third commenter.

“The sauna slows down the aging process of the skin,” promised Dr. Jalalabadi.
