Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut said Perry Ng was forced off the pitch against Birmingham because “he couldn’t see”.

The defender was brought down twice in the first 13 minutes of the Bluebirds’ 1-0 win against Wayne Rooney’s side on Wednesday night before being withdrawn.

In both cases, Ng appeared to avoid falls without colliding with another player first.

Rising to his feet a second time, he walked to the touchline and pointed to his head before being replaced by Mahlon Romeo.

“He said he couldn’t see,” Bulut told reporters at the post-match press conference.

I don’t know what it was and I hope it’s not too serious, but he just said he couldn’t see. I need to talk to the medical staff.

Juninho Bacuna’s half-time goal proved the difference as Birmingham ended a run of eight straight away defeats with victory at Cardiff City Stadium.

Five of those defeats have come since Rooney took over at St Andrew’s in October and the former Manchester United captain admitted he was relieved to end a dismal run.

“I’m happy about the victory. The performance was good, but after we got through it was all about winning,” he said.

“We did well against Cardiff. Their set-piece is one of the best in the league and we had a hard time with that, but overall I think we limited them, especially in the second half.

“There was nothing special about the performance, but we were in control, showed great restraint and showed real composure to achieve the goal.”

With the win, Birmingham moved up two places to 16th in the table, while Cardiff dropped to 10th, three points off the play-off places.

And Bulut admitted the nature of the defeat was far more worrying than the result, with the Bluebirds scoring just one goal in their last four games.

“The most disappointing thing is not just the loss, but the way we lost,” he said.

“We did some good things in the first half, but I don’t think I want to talk about the second half. We played individually, trying to do something, but it never works, you need to be a team.

“It’s not enough what we saw in the last two games, we need to show a lot more. You have to fight to the end, but we didn’t do that.”
