Charles Spencer has shared a photograph of him and his sister Princess Diana as schoolchildren.

He took to Instagram to post the photo, which showed the two dressed in their primary school uniforms aged around four (Charles) and seven (Diana).

The two are seen wearing matching red blazers, while Diana wears a straw hat and Charles wears a cap.

He is wearing gray shorts while she is wearing a matching colored skirt and they are both wearing gray knee socks.

Charles, 59, captioned the post: ‘My first day at school, in September 1968: my dad took this picture of me and my sister, Diana, just before he drove us to Silfield, a really lovely primary school in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

The headmistress was Miss Jean Lowe, a warm and thoughtful lady who loved her boys and girls.

‘I was there until 1972 when I left for what I call – in my memoir – A Very Private School.’

It comes after Charles revealed Princess Diana told her father “if you loved me you wouldn’t leave me here” when she was sent to boarding school.

Earl Spencer made the comments during a recent appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on BBC One.

He said that ‘it was so incredibly impactful’ to see Diana tell their father how she felt about going to boarding school and that ‘I was so proud of her for saying that’.

Charles also echoed his own stance on boarding schools, telling Ms Kuenssberg: ‘Personally I don’t think every child under 13 should be sent away. They cannot understand what is going on’.

Earl Spencer recently published his memoir, A Very Private School, revealing horrific details of the physical and sexual abuse he suffered as a child while educated at Maidwell Hall boarding school in Northamptonshire in the 1970s.

Diana was sent to Riddlesworth Hall in Norfolk at the age of nine after her mother, Frances Roche, left her father John for wallpaper millionaire Peter Shand-Kydd.

The boarding school first opened as an independent girls’ school in 1946 before being forced to close last April due to ‘unprecedented financial challenges’.

Diana was sent to prep school in 1970, three years after her parents separated, and stayed at Riddlesworth Hall, between Thetford and Diss in Norfolk, between the ages of nine and 12.

Young Diana initially told her father she didn’t want to go to boarding school, but he instead took a picture of his daughter sitting on a suitcase in her pleated skirt and red cardigan school uniform.

Although unhappy at first, she later settled into school and became a popular student while dealing with the aftermath of her family breakup.

She left Riddlesworth Hall in 1973 and attended West Heath Girl’s School in Sevenoaks the following year.
