Nothing ruins the aesthetics of a shiny new phone with a trendy case that looks like a scratched screen – but for many clumsy phone owners, it sometimes seems inevitable.
However, phone screen repair specialists have revealed some ways to remove scratches from your device – and you can get them looking good as new using a few household items.
Specialists at Me and My Glass have revealed ways to help remove scratches and marks from phone screens to restore them to their former glory without paying a fortune for full screen replacements.
John Cutts said: ‘Scratch on a phone screen can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with as it can tarnish a device’s appearance.
‘If you want to resell your phone, scratches on the screen are just one of the things that can affect how much you sell your phone for.
‘The good news is that if the scratch is only level with the surface, there is still a chance that the screen can be revived.’
Here he reveals the common household items that will help you scrub your screen clean…
John Cutts of Me and My Glass urged Brits to resist splashing out on a full screen replacement for superficial damage, instead recommending toothpaste or vegetable oil
1. Toothpaste
Toothpaste can help remove minor scratches that haven’t caused too much damage to the screen.
However, this will only work with a standard toothpaste rather than gel, as standard toothpastes are very slightly abrasive, which helps it get rid of superficial scratches.
Sir. Cutts added: “Be sure to give the unit a thorough wipe down with a microfiber cloth afterwards to get rid of any stains that have been caused.”
He advised using a microfiber cloth to clean up after using all the recommended items.
2. Baking powder
Baking soda is often touted as a good cleaning aid – and this also applies to removing phone scratches.
It can be applied to a smartphone screen by mixing it with distilled water and using the paste to clean the scratches before wiping.
3. Baby powder
Mixing baby powder with drops of water created a similarly usable paste that can be effective for light scratches.
This can be a good way to add value to your phone at little cost if you have baby powder lying around anyway.
4. Rubber eraser
If you have kids but they’re a little too old for baby powder to kick around your home, you’ll probably want a rubber eraser instead.
This can be used when it comes to gently removing scratches. The friction caused by the polishing motion will soften the eraser and cause it to gently fill the scratch.
5. Vegetable oil
Adding a small drop of vegetable oil to the scratch and rubbing it can hide damage.
However, it is important to remember that this is only a temporary solution and that the scratch will likely reappear over time.
