Four dead as Russians shell Ukraine’s Kherson region: Man, 87, and his wife, 81, among those killed in strike as country prepares to mark Christmas Day on December 25 for first time
Four people were killed when Russian troops shelled residential areas in the Kherson region in southern Ukraine.
The new attack, which killed an 87-year-old husband and his 81-year-old wife, comes as the country prepares to celebrate Christmas for the first time on December 25.
In response to the strike, which injured nine other people, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Russian soldiers “terrorists.”
On air X, Mr. Zelensky said: “Liquidation of the consequences of Russian strikes on Kherson lasted all night. Terrorists deliberately attack civilian infrastructure and ordinary streets.”
“I am grateful to everyone who is doing everything possible to make Russian terrorists feel our Ukrainian response, a completely fair response to their attacks,” he added.

The head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, shared photographs of the consequences in Kherson, including burnt cars and buildings.
Ukraine will celebrate Christmas for the first time on December 25 after President Zelensky (pictured in April) passed a new law in July.
“The shelling damaged a school, a boiler room, hospitals, city heating networks, as well as private and multi-storey residential buildings. There are wounded, including a child.”
According to the head of the regional military administration, Alexander Prokudin, a 15-year-old teenager was also injured in the attack.
As a result of the attack, fires broke out in houses, a medical facility, and a gas pipeline caught fire, reports i.
The head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, said on air X: “The enemy has no holidays.
“They do not exist for us as long as the enemy kills our people and remains on our land.”
He shared pictures showing burned-out cars and buildings with emergency services outside.
This comes as many Ukrainians are preparing to celebrate Christmas for the first time on December 25th.
The holiday is traditionally celebrated on January 7, as in the Julian calendar, like many in Russia.
But in July, President Zelensky signed a bill to switch Ukraine to the Gregorian calendar, which is used by most Western countries, marking December 25 as an official holiday.
