I filed for divorce after learning my husband spied on me with a hidden camera to prove I’m lazy and worthless – but people say I’m the problem

A stay-at-home mum revealed she split from her husband after he installed a hidden camera to spy on her to prove she is ‘lazy and worthless’.

The woman, who is from the US, took to Reddit to explain that she felt her privacy had been invaded so she kicked her husband out of the house.

But people were quick to point the finger at the woman, saying she was actually the problem.

The mother-of-three explained that the row started when her husband, who was a ‘high earner’, claimed her organizational skills were not up to his expectations after their daughter missed a field trip.

A week after the field trip incident, her husband called her out for neglecting to send out checks to his employees and admitted to installing a hidden camera where he saw her lying down watching TV despite claiming to be busy.

The post read: ‘It’s been about a month since I found out my husband had put a hidden camera in our living room to “prove”‘ that I’m lazy and worthless.

‘It was a small disguised camera hidden inside what looked like a charging pad.

‘He plugged one into a socket in the living room. We have three kids who all have loads of chargers and stuff so I didn’t suspect that.

‘The point my husband was trying to prove was that my administrative skills are not up to the standards of Super stay at home mum that he as a “high earner” deserves.’

The woman went on to explain how it all started with her daughter’s permission slip for a class trip.

She continued: ‘I admit things happened and we missed the submission deadline. I had made a note to fill out the forms on another day, as it was a task I needed to be 100 percent focused on.

‘But it was the start of a new month, and that’s when I shop most and track the household’s bills/subscriptions.

‘I do daily cleaning but we use a deep cleaning/landscaping service that I had to supervise.

‘Long story short, my 16 year old calls my husband after picking up his sister and says she was crying because she can’t go on her trip.

‘My husband drives to the school to ask them to let him fill in the forms in the office. Luckily they let him since it was the same day. I apologized profusely.

She claimed her partner talked about her communication and bookkeeping skills.

She added: ‘I shouted back because his work is concentrated whereas my work at home also has a lot of moving parts and emotional work and I do it all behind the scenes. He digs into how I wasn’t in that much of a hurry and needed to do ‘easy’ things better.

‘A week later he throws an argument about me not having to send checks to his employees that day when I could have done it the next day.

‘He admits to the camera and starts quoting ‘evidence’ of times I was on my phone and that automatically equates to bullshitting.

‘I was on my phone researching meals to fit my daughter’s dietary restrictions while keeping her healthy as a ballet dancer. I researched subscriptions for frozen but healthy meals that she and the rest of us could have on the go or at home.

‘The fact that he was offended that I would occasionally lie down doing research, or that I had taken a TV break before cooking dinner, did it for me. He knew that my days are crazy in the first days of the month, which was when the permission slip happened. I threw him out of the house.

‘It’s been a month and friends have said I miss the fact that there are others out there who won’t discount the things I do to make money possible. I ended up seeing a lawyer and just filed for divorce because I feel violated and devalued. AITA? (Am I A******?).

‘I’m not convinced you’re as reliable as you think you are. Divorce him if you want, but YTA (you are an a*****) on your parenting priorities.’

Another said: ‘Describing filling out a permission slip as something to put off because it requires intense and uninterrupted focus is just crazy.’

Another said: ‘right? Need 100 percent focus for an entire day to sign out a child’s permission forms? Work on your time management.’

A fourth said: ‘Also her 16 year old picks up the school for the younger kids! From this I would imagine that the elder also does the morning deliveries.

‘I can completely feel the work partner’s frustration. If you can’t trust your spouse to pull their weight, it makes you nervous all the time. What else slips through? She almost missed the deadline to send the payslips to the employees!

‘It would make me sweat. Losing trust in your spouse is hard to come back from.’
