Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not be ruled out for the rest of the season after he left the team following Monday night’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The signal-caller was left writhing in pain on the turf after his teammate, walker Little, appeared to step back on him before his own weight caused his ankle to twist further.
Lawrence left the field with the help of two trainers and immediately went for x-rays, fearing he had at least sprained his ankle.
But after further tests on Tuesday it appeared he had avoided a season-ending injury, according to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe.
Lawrence reportedly refused to use a cart and struggled to walk away from the injury before attempting to stand on his ankle in the locker room and ultimately walking away in a walking boot using crutches.
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Trevor Lawrence avoided a season-ending injury.
After Lawrence fell and sprained his ankle, Bengals player Trey Hendrickson fell on top of him, inadvertently aggravating the injury.
Lawrence initially remained down in pain, tried to get up, and then collapsed back to the ground, throwing his helmet to the floor and slamming his fist into the turf.
The Jaguars said his return was questionable with about three minutes remaining in the game, but he did not return. Lawrence was clearly tired for the night as he was filmed wincing in pain as he tried to move through the tunnel.
To add insult to injury for Lawrence, his team played on and lost to the Bengals 34–31 in overtime.
Lawrence is in his first contract with the Jaguars after being drafted in 2021, and his current four-year contract is worth $37 million.
The Jaguars entered Monday night’s game 8-3 on the season, having won seven of their last eight. But if Lawrence was as seriously injured as he looked, it would be enough to ruin their hopes for the rest of the campaign.
It is currently unclear how long Lawrence will be out and whether he will return for the playoffs or sooner.
