Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will not play in the Christmas Day game against the Miami Heat.
The reigning MVP is out for Monday’s game after suffering a sprained ankle, according to the Sixers. Shams Charania.
Embiid appeared to be battling pain after being shaken up during the first quarter of Philadelphia’s game against the Toronto Raptors on Friday and missing practice on Sunday.
He overcame the pain barrier and extended his 30–10 streak to 13 games, finishing with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 121–111 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
But he scored all 31 of his points after he landed poorly and tried to block a shot with 5:25 left in the first quarter.

The reigning NBA MVP was visibly limping and wincing after his fall on Friday.
The 30-10 streak is the longest in the NBA since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made it 16 during the 1971-72 season.
He went to the locker room briefly after scoring just two points in the first quarter, but returned in the second quarter and scored 11 points by halftime.
He limped noticeably, winced periodically and favored his right leg, but that didn’t slow him down in the second half. He also has nine assists and four blocked shots.
Embiid’s streak is the longest since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar started 16 straight games during the 1971-72 season.
Only Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain have longer streaks than Embiid’s.
Embiid has scored 30 or more points in 14 straight games, the most in the NBA since James Harden’s 32-game streak in 2018-19.
However, that streak is coming to an end with his absence over Christmas.
