Kate Middleton and Prince William’s red carpet display is ’emotionally revealing’ with the Princess of Wales appearing ‘vulnerable’, body language expert claims – amid fallout from Omid Scobie race row

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s red carpet appearance at the Royal Variety Performance amid a week of turmoil for The Firm was “emotionally revealing”, according to a body language expert.

Judy James from the UK told FEMAIL that the Prince of Wales’s “guiding hand” as he and the princess arrived hand in hand at the Royal Albert Hall this evening appeared to be gratefully received by his wife, who appeared “vulnerable”.

The 41-year-old royal couple’s appearance at the event comes after the Firm was once again plunged into a racing scandal, reignited by Omid Scobie’s book Endgame, which was published this week.

Referring to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claims in 2021 that members of the royal family allegedly expressed “concerns” about Prince Archie’s skin color before he was born, Scobie suggested that two family members were involved in such discussions.

Scobie initially did not name the two people who allegedly made the comments, but shortly after Endgame was published in the Netherlands, the Dutch version was taken off the shelves and turned into mush after it named two members of the royal family who are said to have caused concern.

The Prince of Wales made a “romantic gesture of support” to his wife Kate tonight as the couple arrived at the Royal Variety Performance, a body language expert has said.

The couple featured in the book were tonight widely named by media outlets around the world, including the Guardian and The Times, as King Charles and Kate.

Amid the fallout from the scandal, over which the palace is said to be “considering all options”, the Prince and Princess of Wales put on a brave face by attending the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington.

Wearing a stunning £1,745 turquoise Safiyaa dress with flared sleeves, dramatic shoulders and a high diamond collar, the princess beamed as she arrived at the event with William.

However, Ms James said the couple’s red carpet appearance showed signs that the Prince of Wales was supporting his wife.

The body language expert noted that Kate appeared

The body language expert noted that Kate appeared “slightly vulnerable” upon arrival, but soon relaxed in William’s presence.

She said: “William’s gestures here look thoughtful as he ‘introduces’ his beautiful wife to the world on the red carpet.

“He controls with his hand, but also extends his hand in a romantic gesture of support, which she accepts, giving him a grateful smile.

“This is not their usual red carpet cosplay. After the abuse and rumors of Scobie’s book, the couple seem to have adopted a regal approach that is also very human and more emotionally honest in terms of their shared love than ever before.

“As an expression of body language, it seems to reflect all the negative comments, from the implication that he is boring to the Stepford Wife quote.”

“Kate looks a little vulnerable here, her pose less statuesque than usual for her red carpet appearance, but her smile becomes warm as she makes more general eye contact than usual with William.”

With the royal family worried about statements made in the Dutch version of Endgame, it remains unclear how the royal names ended up in the book.

Scobie appeared on ITV’s This Morning today, where he insisted the English version of the book did not contain names when it was sent to a translator.

However, Saskia Peters, who translated the book from English to Dutch, previously told MailOnline: “As a translator, I translate what is in front of me.

“The names of the royals were there in black and white. I didn’t add them.

“I just did what I was paid to do—translate the book from English to Dutch.”

When the author of Scobie’s book was told that he had denied those names were in his manuscript, Mrs Peters said: “I don’t know why he said that.

“I have been translating for many years. This is the first time something like this has happened.

“I didn’t want to be a part of it. It’s frustrating. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
