Kate Middleton owns the same Emilia Wickstead number in four colours

With a preference for sleek silhouettes in flattering hues, the Princess of Wales, once voted the best-dressed royal, certainly knows what suits her.

And while Kate has been known to buy the same outfit in two colors (her coronation dress, for example, was a copy of the Alexander McQueen style she’d already worn), there’s one look that works so well that the royals have it in four colors.

Named after the Princess of Wales, the item in question is the Kate dress by British and New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead, which the royal family comes in lavender, cobalt blue, olive green and turquoise.

Bespoke A-line dresses with long sleeves and a belted waist vary only slightly in length.

The turquoise version, which Kate was spotted wearing yesterday when she greeted the Queen of Sweden at Windsor Castle, is a midi, with the other three falling to the knee.

Three of the four dresses – lavender, blue and turquoise – have a bateau neckline, while the olive green dress has a square neckline.

The Wickstead ‘Kate’ dress was previously available in pink, red and navy for £1,350, but is no longer available.

Kate, 41, was first spotted wearing the lavender version in October 2018 when she attended the Global Ministerial Summit on Mental Health in London.

Less than a year later, Kate presented an olive green version of the designer dress at the opening of the Anna Freud Center in London.

In November 2019, she wore a cobalt blue dress to the launch of the National Emergency Trust.

For the occasion, Kate added a little sparkle in the form of Princess Diana’s dazzling diamond and sapphire earrings, which complemented the dress perfectly.

Yesterday’s meeting with the Queen of Sweden and her husband came shortly before Kate and King Charles were identified by media around the world, including the Guardian and the Times, as the two royals were said to have expressed “concerns” about the prince’s skin color Archie after including their names in the Dutch translation of Omid Scobie’s Endgame.

British designers Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham are also among Kate’s favourites, and the Princess of Wales has also been seen wearing versions of their designs.

Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that the Alexander McQueen dress Kate wore to the coronation is almost identical to one that already belongs to the royal family.

The British fashion house has long been ranked among the Princess of Wales’ top designers: in 2011, the royal even chose creative director Sarah Burton to design her wedding dress.

In December 2019, the then Duchess of Cambridge wore a black version of her coronation dress to attend a reception for members of the diplomatic corps at Buckingham Palace.

For the occasion, Kate wore her statement dress with the Lover’s Knot tiara, the badge of the Royal Victorian Order and a blue sash.

Less than 24 hours before King Charles’ coronation, Kate Middleton joined the monarch and Prince William to surprise royal fans lined up at the shopping center outside Buckingham Palace.

To meet the public, the royal chose a fitted midi dress, custom-made for her by British designer Jenny Packham, with a black velvet belt.

The mother-of-three also wore the same dress, but in black, to greet mourning royal fans outside Windsor Castle with Prince William, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in September 2022.

For the gloomy day, the princess kept her accessories minimal and simply wore a pair of black tights and suede heels.
