A beachgoer was left baffled when they spotted a tentacle-shaped ‘alien’-like sea creature on the sand.

The West Australian mother was walking along the beach in Ledge Point, an hour and 20 minutes north of Perth, when she came across something she didn’t recognise.

Thick white rubbery threads protruded from the sand, looking like jellyfish tentacles or something ‘extra-terrestrial’ scattered all over the beach.

Many shared their guesses as to what the mysterious objects were before the mother found out that they were simply dead seaweed that had been bleached by the sun.

‘Found on the beach at Ledge Point. Some in clumps and some single strands emerging from the sand. The kids and I are curious, does anyone know what it is?’ asked the woman in a Reddit post.

People were quick to respond and many made legitimate guesses and others were joking.

‘Linguine. Must have washed over from the Mediterranean in last Friday’s storm,” laughed one user and another laughed: “Udon noodles”.

‘They look like tree roots. Are there plants nearby? Maybe the sand was washed away in a storm?’ a third offered.

‘Bleached seagrass. Which is a true plant as opposed to algae, someone added.

Other guesses included beach worms and squid eggs, with the woman adding that it felt like ‘bean sprouts’ and didn’t move when stung.

‘That’s another reason not to go to Australia!’ one person joked and another agreed: ‘Whatever it is, if it’s in Australia it’ll probably kill you!’

A beachgoer said they saw the same thing at Ledge Point and also wondered what the creature could be.

“We gave it a jerk and it seemed to be stuck in the sand,” they added.

Some people suggested that it could be dead seaweed that had washed up on the shore and lost its color from exposure to the sun.

“After many Google image searches and a few of these responses, I have come to the conclusion that it may be seaweed that has been bleached by the sun since it is not underwater,” decided the mother.
