The alleged leader of a British drug gang who has been on the run for two months has been captured by armed police in Turkey.
Defendant Sean Monaghan, who is said to be behind major drug and firearms deals, was arrested in a hotel room in Istanbul on December 5.
The alleged trafficker reportedly entered the country in October and was living in Fatih in Istanbul. He was wanted under an Interpol red notice.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed Monaghan’s arrest on December 6.
Footage released by the department showed heavily armed narcotics officers bursting into Monaghan’s room.

Minister Yerlikaya said Monaghan entered Turkey on October 25 and his arrest was prompted by an Interpol red notice issued on December 4.
Monaghan is suspected of being the leader of a gang operating in the north-east of England involved in drug dealing, arms dealing and robbery.
Yerlikai’s statement said: “Sean Monaghan… was located and captured during Operation Cage 16.”
“It has been established that an armed organization led by Sean Monaghan distributes large quantities of cocaine and heroin in England, engages in illegal arms trafficking, inflicts armed injuries, armed threats and armed robberies, and that the organization is in possession of large quantities of long-barreled guns, pistols and ammunition. him.”
Minister Yerlikaya added: “We are determined to cleanse our country of international and national organized crime organizations.
“We will catch them one by one and bring them to justice.”
