Moment group of American students think a red traffic light is for pedestrians – and stop dead on the pavement

This is the funny moment when a group of international students stopped at a red traffic light because they thought it was for pedestrians.

Daniel Southern, a scaffolder from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, filmed the incident after he heard a group of people with American accents walk past his work van while he was waiting for the light to turn green.

The group was seen innocently heading towards the traffic lights before abruptly stopping on the pavement as soon as it turned red.

The 33-year-old could be heard getting stitches as the crowd stood patiently on the pavement waiting for the light to turn green before heading out again – no one seemed to realize their mistake.

Narrating the scene from inside his fan, Daniel remarked: “The damn traffic lights are red, so they fucking stopped running.

The clip takes place near Scunthorpe town center, with Daniel sitting in his Fiat 500 work van with his pals Jason and Neil.

When the traffic light ahead of them turns red, they stop, and surprisingly, so does the group of six students they spotted walking to their left.

Oddly enough, it turned out that the group was following traffic rules intended for the road, not for pedestrians.

They then stopped the walk completely, waiting for the light to turn green.

A delighted Daniel began filming the moment on his phone, adding: “International students, this is not a sidewalk man.”

When the traffic died down, the men moved along the road, and the students also walked again.

Howling with laughter, Daniel added sarcastically, “Fuck off.”

Later, recalling the incident, Daniel said: “We were crawling in traffic parallel to them with the window down in the truck, and I was smoking a cigarette.

“We heard an accent that we thought was American, and when the light turned red, they (the students) stopped with the traffic.

“We immediately asked what was going on, thinking they didn’t stop because of the traffic lights. I quickly took out my phone and couldn’t believe what we were witnessing.

“It just shows how different things are in other parts of the world, doesn’t it?

Daniel shared the funny video on social media, causing it to go viral – an outcome he never would have foreseen.

“I didn’t expect it to go viral, otherwise I would have phrased it differently and cut the expletives out of the video,” he said.

“We were all in stitches all day. We’re scaffolders, and with the freezing weather at that moment, we boosted morale in the gang for the day, and possibly for the rest of the year.”

The clip received more than 3,000 likes and more than 1,900 comments, with users eager to weigh in on the distraught students’ actions.

One person wrote: “Red light, green light there.”

“This made my day,” another commented.
