According to new data obtained mirrorOlivia returned to the top spot in 2023, thanks in part to the way BabyCentre ranks its names.
The parenting platform now treats all name spellings as separate entries. Although Sofia used to be one of the most popular names in the country, her ranking has dropped significantly since “Sofia” and “Sofia” were split into separate categories.
This means that Lily, who took first place at the end of the half-year and was previously attributed to Princess Lilibet, has had her crown stolen by old favorite Olivia.
BabyCentre has revealed the most popular baby names for 2023, with Muhammad and Olivia topping the lists.
“Parents spend a lot of time thinking about not only their child’s name, but also how to spell it. They may be small, but these differences are important to parents, so we will now include all individual baby name spellings in our charts,” Faye Mingguo, BabyCentre spokeswoman, told the Mirror.

Once fashionable baby names “Harry” and “Meghan” have fallen out of favor in Britain, according to BabyCentre.
While Harry dropped from 13th place to 31st, registrations for Meghan and the alternative spelling of Meghan also fell.
Previously, the names of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were extremely popular among young parents. But it looks like the names may now have a negative connotation due to their differences with the royal family.
It comes amid an ongoing racial row following the release of Omid Scobie’s book Endgame in November.
The author went to great lengths to defend his work on British television and refused to take blame for the racist scandal surrounding the mention of the names of two members of the royal family in the Dutch translation, saying: “I never imagined a book containing such names “
The Sussexes’ favorite royal author directly blamed the publisher in the Netherlands and denied it was part of a lucrative “trick” to distribute more copies around the world.
