Georgia Schofield, from Hartlepool, Christmas hit back at trolls who compared her to the Grinch and called her a “bad mum” for taking down her decorations on the day they were due to go up.

She said: “I take down the tree and other decorations and replace them with things for Ava’s birthday, of course I do this when the kids are asleep.”

“I’ve been doing this for the last four years, this year will be the fifth.

“It will be a lot easier for me if everything is simple so it can be easily put away since I’m a single parent and do it all myself.”

Georgia, who is not only mum to four-year-old Ava but also has a three-year-old son named Leo, says that although the decorations come down quickly, she is really enjoying the festive period.

She said: “I really like it because I see the excitement when the children open their gifts and they love helping decorate the tree.”

“I enjoy the Christmas period, although it is very busy.”

She added: “My family and friends understand why I’m doing this, but when I spread the word online I got mixed opinions, which is to be expected.”

Detailing the criticism she faced, she said: “I was told I was being mean because it was unfair to my youngest to cut down the tree.

“But like his older sister, he doesn’t know any different because it’s been done this way all his life. I really don’t let negativity get me down.

“It’s impossible to please everyone, but the way I see it is this is my life and I’ll do what I want whether people like it or not.”

Speaking to The Mirror last year, Georgia said: “My daughter’s birthday is on Boxing Day and if it were me I wouldn’t want the tree to be up.” So I try to make this special day as normal as possible.

“At 16:00 we will have a buffet, and by 17:30 the children will already go to bed. Then I put away all the Christmas gifts and replace them with Ava’s birthday decorations.”
