Nathan Cleary & Mary Fowler’s Aussie reunion is OFF as Matilda cancels Sydney trip – fuelling speculation couple have secretly split
Nathan Cleary’s Sydney reunion with girlfriend Mary Fowler was canceled at the last minute after the Matilda star pulled out of a planned trip to Sydney.
Fowler was due to be one of the star guests at the team’s fan day at CommBank Stadium in the city’s west on December 21, but organizers announced in a statement on Tuesday that she would “no longer be able to attend”.
She and Cleary were last seen in Perth on November 2 when they said goodbye at the airport, just days after The Washington News Australia exclusively revealed their romance with photos of the pair sharing some tender moments in the park.
Fowler returned to the UK to play for Manchester City, and Cleary soon left Australia to continue his off-season holiday with a visit to the US.
Cleary and Fowler (pictured in late October) have not seen each other since saying goodbye at Perth Airport on November 2.
Their fans had hoped they would reunite and Fowler was due to attend a Matildas fan day in Sydney next week, but those plans fell through.
Their fans had hoped Cleary would remain in North America so the pair could reunite when Fowler joined the Matildas for two matches against Canada earlier this month.
However, he returned to Australia to prepare for pre-season training with the Penrith Panthers.
On Sunday, Fowler posted a pair of quirky selfies on Instagram showing off his dramatic new look.
Dressed in a white off-the-shoulder dress, Fowler grimaced for the camera and wore a bold red lipstick.
Cleary, who had been quick to like his girlfriend’s posts up to this point, still didn’t like her latest work at the time of writing, a first for the couple.
Her fans wondered about the reasoning behind the dramatic new look, which was accompanied by a single red rose emoji.
The football star raised eyebrows when she showed off a dramatic new look on Instagram over the weekend – and unusually, Cleary still hasn’t liked the post.
Fowler (pictured ahead of the Manchester City match) also spoke out when she recently published a cryptic poem that talks about the “horrible moments” in life.

On November 28, the 20-year-old soccer star raised eyebrows by posting a cryptic poem that spoke about the “horrible moments” in life.
The article by renowned author L.R. Knost focuses on the challenges people face every day and encourages them to “breathe in the amazing” and “breathe out the ordinary” moments in their day.

Cleary blushed last week when asked about Fowler while attending the GQ Awards alone in Sydney.
To the question: “Where is Mary?” he replied, “I knew this would happen,” and blushed.
“I’m here alone… without a plus one.”

Regarding Fowler’s absence from the Sydney fan day, ticket holders were advised: “We regret to inform you that Mary Fowler will no longer be able to attend the event at CommBank Stadium next Thursday 21 December.”
“We are excited to announce that superstar forward Caitlin Foord will be joining Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy on the field for an incredible event, including a live masterclass and insight into their personal and professional lives.”
CommBank Stadium is just a short drive from Cleary’s Penrith base in Sydney’s west.
When the couple were photographed cuddling in Perth in late October, Fowler refused to comment when asked by The Washington News Australia about the romantic sight, saying: “Sorry, I just want to get back to my hotel.”
The Manchester City star and the NRL Premiership winner have been linked romantically since they were spotted together twice following the Matildas’ World Cup campaign.
The couple’s romance went public when The Washington News Australia captured exclusive photos of them sharing tender moments in a Perth park on October 31 (pictured).
The pair were then seen sharing ice cream after a promotional event organized by Adidas, a brand both athletes endorse.
Just days before their romance went public, Cleary was photographed with two Matildas fans outside Optus Stadium just before the Australians’ 8-0 win over the Philippines, with Fowler scoring the opening goal.
Matilda supporter Annie Levine shared a photo of Cleary with the caption “silly for tilly”, giving the clearest indication at the time that there was a romantic connection between the pair.
Cleary had previously been hanging out with friends and family in Bali.
