Reggaeton star Nicky Jam feels ‘happy’ and ‘healthy’ from losing 110 POUNDS via weight-loss surgery after ‘fighting with my weight my whole life
Reggaeton musician Nicky Jam is feeling better than ever after losing an astounding 110 pounds thanks to weight loss surgery.
The 42-year-old singer spoke with People on Tuesday about how his rapid weight loss and weight loss has significantly improved his mood and health.
Nicky opened up about his procedure as several celebrities shared their experiences with other forms of weight loss aid, including medications like Ozempic, which Real Housewives of New Jersey star Jennifer Fessler recently blamed for her hospitalization for “damaged gut.” .
The musician (real name: Nick Rivera Caminero) admitted that before the surgery, his weight was a constant source of torment for him.
“The reality is that I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life because it’s an industry where you have to be in shape, you have to be in movies, you have to be in videos,” he shared.
Reggaeton star Nicky Jam, 42, told People on Tuesday about his amazing 110-pound weight loss. He admitted that he underwent gastric bypass surgery to lose weight.
However, he began to consider weight loss surgery after a friend had a positive experience with it, although he couldn’t quite shake his nerves before going under the knife.
“I mean, you’re always going to be nervous before surgery, so I was nervous. “I won’t lie,” he admitted. “But this is what I really wanted.”
According to Nicky, he had gastric bypass surgery, a form of bariatric (or weight loss) surgery in which the stomach is rerouted so that food only passes through a small part of the stomach before entering the small intestine. UCLA Health.
The surgery significantly reduces the stomach’s capacity, thereby limiting the number of calories the patient can take in at one time, which typically results in significant weight loss.
The music artist said he lost 110 pounds in the six months following surgery and is still losing weight through physical activities such as playing basketball.
“Basketball is what helped me. I play basketball every day,” he admitted. “I’m a big basketball fan and I do the same with my friends wherever I go. We have an indoor court here. We play every day, and every time we play basketball, I think I lose two pounds!”
The surgery not only affected how much food he could eat in one sitting, but also reduced his desire to snack constantly.
“I wake up and I’m the same guy, but I don’t wake up and immediately think about food,” he said. “I used to wake up and just want to eat. Now I take my time and eat whenever I want. I’m better. I’m happy. I feel healthy. I took a blood test two days ago and the results were better than ever.”

Nicky decided to have surgery after his friend’s positive results. However, in the early days of his recovery he was brought to tears as he could only drink liquids for several months; seen in 2020 in Miami
As happy as he was with his new changes and routine, the first months of his recovery were frightening for him because, like many people who have undergone weight loss surgery, he had to stick to a liquid diet for an extended period of time before reintroducing solid food. .
“I’ve been eating really well the last two months, which I love because I literally went four or five months without eating,” he said. “I was just drinking fluids and stuff and going crazy. I’m not going to lie. I cried for the first few days.”
Despite the obvious benefits, Niki found it difficult to survive the first days after the operation.
“You have to mentally prepare yourself for what’s coming, and it’s not easy. People say it’s the easy way out – and they’re wrong,” he said. “You are obliged not to eat here. You can’t even drink liquids and eat at the same time. Because your stomach is so small, you will get full (so quickly). It turns out that you need to learn to eat, wait 20 minutes, and then drink some liquid.”
Even drinking alcohol has led to new complications for the reggaeton star, as even small amounts of wine can now make him feel drunk.
However, he was happy to cut back on his substance use, admitting that he had previously abused Percocet, which he said made him “fat” and “so big.”
Although gastric bypass surgery was the main catalyst for his weight loss, Nicky admitted that he previously lost some weight after moving from Puerto Rico to Colombia in 2007, which helped boost his public profile significantly.
“I quit drugs. I cleaned myself. I lost weight over the years, lost weight, and people looked at me like, “Yo, you look brand new. You look like a different person,” he recalled. “And the way you love and take care of yourself helps the world love you and support you. The way it is”.
He denied that weight loss surgery was the “easy way out” and talked about how difficult it was to cope with the tiny amount of food he could eat at one time; seen May 2022 in Cannes, France.
As his post-surgery recovery progresses, Nicki is embarking on new projects, including an upcoming album and tour.
He reflected on how far he had come given his difficult circumstances and lack of family life.
“I missed my mother. I didn’t have a mother. I didn’t have a father. I was alone on the street and did what people do on the streets,” he shared. “Obviously, of course, there are times when I don’t even like myself, like when I was fat and huge or when I was doing drugs.”
“But that’s the magic of being a human being,” he added. “Getting better, getting better, getting better—by loving yourself more and more.”
