Sex trends for 2024 revealed: Searches for ‘findom’, being in a throuple and thirst traps increase – but Britons are ditching spanking, dogging and bondage, new study claims

Sassy Britons have abandoned spanking, stalking and tying up in favor of “findom”, being trapped and thirst-trapped, a new study has found.

An analysis of 160 million Google searches revealed the rise and fall of more than 100 key weird words over the past five years.

The top five most popular words were “findom” – financial domination, where a person derives pleasure from controlling another’s finances, and “thirst trap” – when someone posts content with the intention of being desired.

But the most popular search term was “gooning” – the act of achieving prolonged arousal through sensory overload, often using hypnotic stimuli.

The findings, authored by Rachel Thompson, a leading sex and relationship expert, also showed that dog stalking as a kink has fallen over the past five years, with searches for “foreplay” showing the steepest drop over the same period.

Whippings fell by 33 percent, dog chasing fell by 34 percent, and tying fell by 36 percent.

The report was created by analyzing more than 100 of the most popular kinks-related keywords combined with Google search data and information from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter/X over the past five years.

The data reveals a rapidly changing landscape of sexual tastes sweeping the UK, fueled by social media and generational change.

It also sheds light on a whole new sexual vocabulary that has emerged on the Internet to circumvent censorship, called “sexikon” or “algolanguage.”

Neologisms such as seggs (sex), corn (porn), mascara (romantic sexual partner) and accountant (sex worker) have emerged, allowing content creators to bypass algorithmic filters on sites like TikTok and Instagram that combat oversexualization content.
