One protester even tried to take the microphone away from Mr Campbell, managing to say: “While you’re caroling, children are dying in the Gaza Strip” before the sound was cut off.

Mr. Campbell interrupted his planned dialogue when he realized that the commotion on stage was not part of the show.

“Wait a second,” he said.

‘Easy and pleasant.’

The singer tried to calm and inform the crowd as security guards escorted protesters off stage.

“Everything is good, thank you everyone, everyone is given the opportunity to enjoy the moment,” Mr Campbell said.

“The children are safe and they are going to return.

“It’s important to come together on a night like this when there’s so much pain out there and so many people are feeling it.”

The chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, Dvir Abramovich, strongly criticized the incident and called it a “scare tactic.”

“Carols by Candlelight used to be a safe place for families to celebrate the beauty of Christmas, but no more as this tornado of prejudice destroys our sense of security,” he said.

“I have faith that law enforcement will identify those responsible for such heinous acts and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

The crowd could be heard cheering as the children returned to the stage and the show continued.

Australian Jewry Executive Council co-chairman Alex Ryvchin condemned the disruptions on Sunday.

“You can always count on anti-Israel extremists to do their best to scare decent, ordinary people,” Mr. Ryvchin said.

“The chorus of boos tells them loud and clear that they are not wanted.”
