The body of a teenage boy who went missing while boating on Christmas Eve has been found after a lengthy search.

Emergency crews were called after reports of a 14-year-old boy missing from the Mary River off Greensill Road at Owanilla, 20 km southwest of Maryborough in Queensland, approx. 10.20 on Sunday.

The boy was last seen when he fell into the river while swimming and was unable to get to the surface.

Queensland Police confirmed the boy’s body was found by police divers shortly after 6pm on Sunday.

A desperate search is underway for a 14-year-old boy who went missing after tubing on the Mary River.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Police are currently assisting the boy’s family, who have requested privacy at this difficult time.

A RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter based in Bundaberg also joined the search at 10.45am and then returned to base at 1.30pm after finding no sign of the boy in the water or on the riverbank.

“It was believed that the teenager was being towed behind a boat on an inflatable tube when he fell and was unable to resurface,” LifeFlight said in a statement.
