Myrniong: Twenty injured including one fighting for life after 20-car crash near Melbourne

A major crash involving more than 20 vehicles has caused chaos on roads north-west of Melbourne, leaving one man fighting for his life.

The multi-vehicle collision on the Western Highway at Myrnyong near Bacchus Marsh happened just before 4pm on Monday.

Victoria Police said more than 20 vehicles were involved in the crash due to heavy fog in the area.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics responded to “multiple incidents involving multiple vehicles” in Myrnyong, resulting in a total of 20 patients being taken to hospital.

One person was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition and a further 19 people, all in a stable condition, were taken to hospitals including the Royal Melbourne, Ballarat Base Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Footscray Hospital.

VicTraffic reported that the Western Freeway was closed in both directions between Bacchus Marsh and Ballan.
